3 Health Benefits of Pineapples

Everyone knows pineapples are delicious. However, I bet you didn’t know that a pineapple is a collection of individual berries that are fused together. If you didn’t know this, you are not alone. However, it should be no surprise that pineapples are incredible for the human body. What tropical fruit isn’t, right? This is because of their rich profile of vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants that support natural bodily functions. I will only be covering three of the many different health benefits.

Immune System Support

The immune system is essential to fighting off germs and pathogens. According to the FDA, pineapples can substantially aid your immune system by supplying the body with its recommended daily dose of Vitamin C (Szalay, 2018). Because of the high concentration of Vitamin C, they offer many other benefits. As we discussed in our previous article about the health benefits of tomatoes, Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights cell damage.

Digestion Support

Pineapples are high in fiber as well as water (Ware, 2017). Diets high in fiber will give your stool a solid shape, whereas, drinking plenty of water helps to prevent constipation. It’s the combination for these features that makes pineapple so beneficial for digestion. There is no fix all solution to digestion health and “going regularly” but adding pineapples to your diet will certainly keep you pointed in the right direction.

Supports Healthy Skin

Surprisingly, pineapples can help keep your skin healthy and tight (SASS, 2017). This is because pineapples are packed full of manganese. This mineral is essential for building collagen—the structural component of skin that prevents wrinkles and sagging from aging.

Thankfully, pineapples are delicious and can be prepared in many ways. This makes getting their rich profile of vitamins and antioxidants very easy and convenient.
